It is that time of the year again to start thinking about what your little ghouls and ghosts will dress up as for Halloween. I love to have plenty of time to get the perfect costumes for my kids.

I just love when I can pull out all of my holiday decorations this time of the year. Halloween is such a fun time to remember what it is like to be a kid. I have people tell me all of the time that they love how I decorate for all of the holidays and make it feel like their home when they were younger. I guess that that is just the kid in me, and I am glad that I can make it fun for others as well.

I like that I can find cute picture decorations to add to my Halloween decor, but this year I thought that I would make some of my own.

Trick-or-Treat Safety 101

Did you know that Halloween night is the most dangerous night for kids and automobile accidents? Yup, on average every other day of the year there are three accidents every single day that involve kids and cars. On Halloween night that number is doubled to six!

I don't want to see anymore kids get hurt on Halloween so I have put together this list of safety measures that we as parents can use to make our Halloween safe and fun for our kids!

1. First off if you are not going out with your kids on Halloween night then you might suggest that they go out with a big group of kids. Remember that safety in numbers is best.

2. Make sure that your child's costume is easy to walk in (or lets be honest, run in) and make sure that they can easily see so they can watch for oncoming vehicles.

3. Make sure that you child's costume is visible from at least 75 feet away. Make sure that their costumes either have reflective tape, or some sort of light like a glow stick or flashlight. That way they are more noticeable to cars and other people.

4. Talk with your kids about what homes are acceptable to go to while trick-or-treating. A good rule of thumb is to only go to those homes who have outside lights on. Remind your kids to never go into anyone's home. This is not safe!

5. Last but not least have good trick-or-treating etiquette. Handing out candy is not mandatory. Remember to say thank you!

Wicked Witch Boots

I think that one of my favorite places to get ideas and crafts is the Wood Connection. That is where I found these cute witch boots. There's were orange, but I wanted mine to be purple.

They were fun and easy to make. I think from start to finish they took maybe two hours and that was giving them time to dry and me having to help my kids every once and a while.

I like them. I am glad that I made them. Check out the Wood Connection if you haven't. They have so many cute things there.

HaLlOwEeN Candy Corn Wreath

 I finally finished one of my many projects for Halloween this year. I have so many and I kept on running into problems with other projects that I felt that I was never going to get done, so I got a simple one done today and I feel better. Just a little bit better. I think listening to Christmas music while I worked helped :)

This is so easy to make. What you will need is a foam wreath, lots of hot glue some ribbon and candy corn. I used two bags.                  

All you have to do is hot glue the candy corn around the wreath and when you start a new row switch the direction of the candy until you are done. Easy as that!

                       

Once you are finished with the wreath it will look like this:

   

                   

Add some cute ribbon and tie a cute bow. I used my Bowdabra to make the bow. And all finished ta-da!! It didn't take that long and it is cute. Why did I wait so long to make one of these?

Halloween Ghosts

This is a fun DIY that you can easily finish in about an hour or so. They are very easy and a fun project that you can do with your kids if you want to.

Supplies:
-Styrofoam balls- I found mine at Joann's
-Black felt square
-Cheese cloth
-White thread to hang the ghosts
-Pins

The first thing that you want to do is cut two eyes and an oval shaped mouth out of the black felt. I wanted bigger eyes so I cut bigger ovals out for eyes. After your eyes and mouth are cut out take some pins and stick them through the eyes into the Styrofoam ball.

The next step is to open up your cheese cloth and measure out how long you want the ghosts to be. Then take your scissors and cut strips at both ends of the cheese cloth to make it more stringy. Once you have all of your strips cut then you find the center of the cheese cloth and place the ball with eyes underneath the cheese cloth. Once you have your ghost made all you need to do is use some white thread and hang your ghost.

I love how these turned out! They are such a cute addition to my Halloween decorations.

Halloween Table Runner

Okay this project took longer than I thought that it would, but that is okay because I think that they turned out so stinkin cute!

A cute Halloween table runner! I also made them to go in and on my china hutch. Yup I am all matchy matchy. I found this tutorial from Pinterest and I thought that it was simple enough to try it myself.

The cool thing about this table runner is that you are quilting it as you go. If you can sew a straight line then you can make this!

This is what it looks like after I finished the quilting while sewing it together. Then you trim the edges and bind it together. It was so simple.

I am going to make just the table runner for Thanksgiving and I haven't decided if I will make everything for Christmas or just the table runner.

They are so cute though!

Start a fun Tradition: Boo your friends this Halloween!

I am sure that you have lived in a neighborhood that has this fun tradition. It's called being Booed if you haven't. This is a fun tradition where neighbors get to secretly share yummy treats with each other while being sneaky. My kids love it and are excited to start it this year.

Facts About Halloween

I love to celebrate Halloween with my family. It is so much fun to dress up the little's and go out trick-or-treating. This was a very interesting find for me. It was fun to see where some of the traditions came from. 

My favorite thing that we did when I was little was have hot chili with apple cider for dinner before we went out for the night. What is your favorite tradition on Halloween?

Spooktackular Halloween Mantle Roundup!

One thing that I love about the holidays is being able to dress up a mantle. I just love how you can take a small space and add a few things to it and create an amazing focal point for the season!

Now sadly my house doesn't have a fireplace or a mantle for me to decorate, but that is not stopping me. I am in the process of building a beautiful mantle for my kitchen so I can join in on the festivities.

Here are a few of my favorite mantles that really bring the Halloween spirit into the home. Enjoy!

This mantle is from Babble. I love the life size skeleton on the mantle. The pumpkin and the twigs with greenery add to make this a very cool mantle.

This mantle is from The Corner of Plaid and Paisley. I love how this mantle has a dark castle feel. I love having skulls in jars and the black birds in the cage is awesome. Oh and don't get me started on the black lace. I love it!

 

This mantle is from Peppermint Plum. This is so darling. I love the picture and the colors with the slight hint of green make this mantle sweet and elegant. Isn't that mirror amazing?

This mantle is from Sweet Something Designs. The candles in this design make this mantle elegant. I love the pumpkins and the owl. I think that this is adorable and I love the trick-or-treat banner!

This mantle is from The Frugal Homemaker. This mantle can be used for Halloween and Fall. It is just simply graceful. 

This mantle is from BH&G. I love the colors that are used in this mantle, I love the witch hats also. I think that the theme is very cute, especially the witch legs coming out of the chimney!
